Software and IT organizations use metric effectively to pin-point trouble spots and improve continuously.
We measure various parts of the process, starting from simple things like number of lines of code (kLOC) and team size to variance in the number of class relationships initially defined and finally implemented. Quality metric that are gathered refer to find and correction rates and how they changed over time.
These metric are analyzed to determine the impact of various factors on project performance. OpenLink Systems also uses these metric for internal benchmarking.
Though individual clients and projects may not see the role of metric, we believe that this exercise diligently followed has helped mature our development capabilities over time.
